Earth Day is the perfect time for small businesses to take action and consider joining The Climate Pledge. The theme for 2022 Earth Day is ‘Invest in our Planet.’ Nothing signifies that commitment more than pledging to work together to make our earth sustainable for generations to come.
Amazon is committed to building a sustainable business for our customers and the planet. In 2019, Amazon co-founded and became the first signatory to The Climate Pledge—a commitment to be net-zero carbon across our business by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement.
Joining The Climate Pledge
When you sign The Climate Pledge, you join a cross-sector community of businesses committed to taking transformational action to protect the global economy from the disruptive risks associated with climate change. Companies have the opportunity to accelerate innovation and tackle the climate crisis by coming together and sharing knowledge, ideas, and best practices.
Signatories of The Climate Pledge agree to three principal areas of action .
- Regular Reporting: Measure and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis.
- Carbon Elimination: Implement decarbonization strategies in line with the Paris Agreement through real business changes and innovations, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, materials reductions, and other carbon emission elimination strategies.
- Credible Offsets: Neutralize any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially-beneficial offsets to achieve net-zero annual carbon emissions by 2040.

What’s Amazon doing?
To reach its goal, Amazon will continue to reduce emissions across its operations by taking real business actions and establishing a path to power its operations with 100% renewable energy, five years ahead of our original target of 2030. Amazon is also delivering on its Shipment Zero vision to make all Amazon shipments net-zero carbon, with 50% net-zero carbon by 2030, and purchasing 100,000 electric delivery vehicles, the largest order ever of electric delivery vehicles. We are also investing $2 billion in the development of decarbonizing services and solutions through the Climate Pledge Fund.
